Galveston Channel - VTS Operating Restrictions --- To: Until Further Notice --- U.S. Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Service Houston-Galveston Directs the following for barge operations to and from fixed and temporary facilities west of a line drawn from Texas A and M Galveston at 29-18.73N 094-48.92W, to Gulf Sulphur Services at 29-18.53N 094-49.10W: 1.) No arrivals/departures with strung out barges. 2.) Operations must keep in line with the Lone Star Harbor Safety Committee, Texas International Terminal Industry Best Guidance. 3.) Lead vessels and assist vessels must be a minimum of 1200 hp each when pushing loaded or empty standard barges approximately 200 ft x 35 ft and larger. 4.) FLOOD CURRENT – DAY and NIGHT: a. Assist vessel is required for all configurations. b. No transits permitted when flood current is greater than 1.0 kt. -- Vessels will be asked to confirm they can comply with these restrictions upon check-in.
Valid 2026-05-18 until further notice.
