Algiers Canal – GIWW – Lock Precautions --- To: Until Further Notice --- Mariners are to avoid making contact with the canal end long guidewall at Algiers Lock, due to deteriorating timbers and wall instability. Additionally, Algiers Lock is experiencing surges in the lock chamber due to the low water in the Mississippi River and the Algiers Canal. Tows are to navigate with extreme caution while entering and exiting the lock and at slow safe speeds to avoid the canal long guidewall area entirely. If mariners experience a surge, it is recommended that they back out slowly while maintaining control to allow the surge to settle.
