NAVAREA IV
General / Marine Construction (Excluding Bridges) / Dredging
Curtin Maritime Corporation will begin maintenance dredging operations in the New York and New Jersey Channels—specifically the Seguine, Ward, and Outerbridge reaches —on or about August 1, 2026, with completion expected by October 1, 2026. The project, conducted under USACE contract W912DS25CA011, involves 24/7 dredging within existing federal navigation channels to maintain safe passage for maritime traffic. Dredged material will be transported offshore and placed as remediation material at the Historic Area Remediation Site (HARS) in the Atlantic Ocean. The operation will utilize one mechanical dredge (DB Avalon) and three split hull scows, supported by four towing vessels. All manned equipment will monitor VHF-FM Channels 13 and 16 for maritime safety. Mariners are advised to proceed with caution and coordinate passing arrangements. The project site plan, coordinates, and operational notes are provided, with specific restrictions on dredging activities in certain shoaled areas from October 1 to November 30. The survey and mapping data meet US Army Corps of Engineers standards and are referenced to the US State Plane Coordinate System (NAD 1983). For further information, Project Manager Robert Collaro is the point of contact.
