HATTERAS INLET - BARNEY SLOUGH CHANNEL
ATON / Proposed Notice of Change
Location: 35-13.00N 075-44.19W Aid Name: Barney Slough Channel Lighted Buoy 14 LLNR: 28723.5 Action: DISCONTINUE Due to shoaling between Barney Slough Lighted Buoy 10 (LLNR 28722.7) and Hatteras Inlet Channel Light 24 (LLNR 28785), the Coast Guard will discontinue this section of channel due to areas of extreme shoaling making available channel very narrow with depths as low as 1-2 feet MLW. Due to this extreme shoaling, the aids in this area are misleading and do not provide a safe route for the mariner. To mitigate the absence of these aids, the Coast Guard has established three Oliver Reef Buoys to help provide safe passage from Barney Slough Lighted Buoy 7 (LLNR 28722.4) and Rollinson Channel. Removal of the aids is scheduled to begin October 15, 2026. An additional comment period for interested mariners and other stakeholders is now open. Comments are strongly encouraged on the potential impact this would have on navigational safety. You may provide feedback using the U. S. Coast Guard East District Waterway Data Sheet, available online at: D05_LNM_Special_Notice_Waterway_Proposal_Feedback_Form_Indefinite.pdf (uscg.gov) Or via email at: [email protected] All comments will be carefully considered and are requested prior to October 1, 2026 to be considered in the analysis. Refer to Project Number 05-25-036(D). MSI # 52021.
Valid 2026-08-24 to 2026-09-30.
