Background
The Singapore Strait is one of the world's busiest shipping lanes with dense transits of commercial and coastal traffic. Small-boat attacks, robberies and boardings have occurred historically in the wider region. A boarding by multiple assailants suggests a deliberate piracy incident that may pose an ongoing threat to nearby traffic. Vessels transiting such areas should maintain heightened vigilance, avoid the reported position and report sightings to local coastal authorities or the nearest MRCC.
