Location: 38-21.72N 076-59.85W Bridge Name: Thomas Mac Middleton Bridge Mariners are advised that an engineering firm, on behalf of Maryland Transportation Authority, will be performing an inspection on the Thomas Mac Middleton (Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial) Bridge, across Potomac River, mile 50.0, in between Newburg, MD and Dahlgren, VA. The inspection will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Monday-Friday; from October 26, 2026, through December 31, 2026. A 41-foot work boat, a 28-foot work boat, and divers will be located in and around the vicinity of the bridge. During the work hours, the 41-foot work boat, the 28-foot work boat, and the divers will be located adjacent to the bridge fenders, in the navigational channel of the bridge, which will reduce the horizontal clearance of the bridge to approximately 180 feet. Vessels that can safely transit through the bridge during periods with a reduced horizontal clearance may do so at any time. Vessels that cannot safely transit through the bridge during periods with a reduced horizontal clearance may safely transit through the bridge if at least a 20-minute prior notice is given to the project foreman. Inspection personnel, equipment and vessels will relocate from the navigable channel, upon request. Work vessels may be reached on VHF-FM channels 13 and 16.
